As fine a performance of Bruckner's Ninth Symphony as this by Dohnanyi and the Cleveland Orchestra is an open inducement to re-examine the piece and re-survey the recorded scene. The Ninth, Dohnanyi now reminds us, is not only an epic work, it is also an intensely dramatic one, a piece full of raw-nerved disquiet and of anguish frankly stated.
