2010 release, an installment in the ongoing compilation series Auteur Labels, here profiling releases on legendary Manchester independent Factory Records during 1987. Founded in late 1978, early Factory releases were guided by the five original directors: Tony Wilson, Alan Erasmus, Peter Saville, Martin Hannett and Rob Gretton. By 1987 the label was riding high, scoring a huge international hit with 'True Faith' by New Order, and with House music filling the Haçienda dancefloor. Meanwhile, the Happy Mondays had yet to break through, while older groups such as ACR, Section 25 and the Wake quietly departed.
