(24/41) We’re thrilled to announce the reissue of Jiraffe's "Out'A The Box," a legendary dance record from New York City, originally cut at the renowned Sunshine Sound studio.
First released in 1988 on Goldqwest Records, "Out'A The Box" emerged from the creative collaboration between Richie Weeks and Al Smith. This limited-edition 12" reissue will feature a full sleeve with a never-before-seen photograph of Richie Weeks with the legendary Vaughan Mason at Vaughan's home studio, along with the captivating story behind "Out'A The Box."
Richie Weeks, celebrated for his work with The Jammers and Weeks & Co, founded Goldqwest Records following the closure of Salsoul Records. Inspired by his friend Vaughan Mason, Richie ventured into house music production, creating demos that caught the attention of Reynald "Crazy Frenchman" Deschamps of M.T.I. Exports. A generous supporter funded Goldqwest's third release, leading to the creation of "Out'A The Box" by Richie and Al Smith at Al's home studio in Philadelphia. The track masterfully blends post-disco, dance, Latin, and proto-house elements, achieving cult status among DJs worldwide.
