Arriving with minimal info, ‘JP’s Myspace Beats’ would is a fine bucket of hip hop styled nuggets chopped up in a style somewhere between J Dilla and Prefuse 73 and racked up as a loose sorta beat tape. You know the vibe, classic samples served hot and raw from the MPC, juicing salient soul and jazz breaks from his considerable record collection in a manner primed for laid-back smoke-outs, just how heads used to do.
There’s some recognisable bits, but a lot that aren’t, or to us at least, but either way the style is just classic backpack era business; ruffcut and full of vibes.
